“Sunja”

This year, I was introduced to Kogonada’s work, and I instantly fell in love with it. My first encounter was this year’s brilliant and beautiful “After Yang” and then his first feature film, 2017’s “Columbus”. Finally, a few months back came Apple TV’s “Pachinko”, a series he co-directed with Justin Chon, depicting the turbulent events in the life of a young Korean immigrant called Sunja, in a series of multiple and parallel timelines, from the 1910’s to the 1980’s.

Not easy to describe in a few words but if a character-driven, emotional drama, wrapped inside a package of stunning imagery and compelling soundtrack is your thing, look no further.
